Two Circa 1935 Picko Chewing Gum Letter Packs
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $235
We've never seen or heard of this issue. Produced by the Shelby Gum Company of Shelby, Ohio, each of these two small envelopes houses a stick of Picko Chewing Gum and a small felt letter. The directions on the back of the envelope encourage kids to "Collect School Letters and spell out your school, club or your name on sweaters, jackets, sweat shirts, etc." Also provided on the reverse are instructions on how kids can redeem ten Picko gum wrappers to receive a large 8-inch felt letter. Both of the envelopes have been neatly opened on one side, with one housing a red letter "L" and the other a red letter "E" (both two inches tall). The interior flap of each envelope makes note that Shelby is also the maker of "Blow Gum." Both envelopes (3.5 x 2.25 inches) display moderate wear, including a couple of stains on the front of one. Both the gum and letters are in much the same condition as when originally issued. Reserve $100. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $235
