Circa 1931 Yellow Kid Funny Face Chewing Gum Box
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $3,819
Display box for Yellow Kid Funny Face Chewing Gum, issued by the Pulver Company Inc., of Rochester, New York, containing seventy wrapped pieces of gum (out of an original 100). The novelty of this issue is the fact that each piece of gum (square in shape) features a "funny face" stamped in high relief on the front, and a comic saying on the reverse. For added visual appeal, the gum is wrapped in colorful cellophane, which is transparent enough that customers could choose which "funny face" they preferred. The back-panel display pictures an illustration of the iconic "Yellow Kid," as well as two "funny faces." The display box (8 x 8 x 2 inches) has imperfections (including a missing side flap on the lid and tears along the back panel) but still has tremendous display value. Reserve $400. Estimate (open).
