1909-1911 T206 Demmitt and O'Hara St. Louis Rarities (2)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,406
Presented are the rare Demmitt and O'Hara cards from the T206 set, both significant variation rarities from the popular T206 White Border series. These are two of the rarest cards in the set, and are usually the very last cards (not including "The Big Four") required by collectors to complete the T206 set. O'Hara and Demmitt have been always recognized as great rarities, since the days of Jefferson Burdick. (In fact, Burdick singled out Demmitt and O'Hara, along with Wagner, Plank, and Magie, as significant T206 rarities in the original American Card Catalog). Both cards are graded GOOD 2 by PSA. 1) T206 Ray Demmitt, St. Louis American card. This is a very pleasing and very conservatively graded example of this famous card. The card is very bright, with bold colors, a crisp, perfectly focused image, and a few vertical creases, which do not significantly detract from the card's overall superb eye-appeal. The corners are evenly rounded (with the heavier wear in the upper left responsible for this card not grading higher). This is an extremely pleasing mid-grade example, with exceptional eye-appeal, of one of the T206 set's key cards. 2) This example of the O’Hara, St. Louis, T206 variation has heavy surface wear and some light staining (not uncommon for Polar Bear back T206 cards). This is still a very attractive card, bright and crisp, with virtually perfect centering, and extremely fresh colors. Polar Bear was the only company to issue each of these two T206 variations. Cards issued with Polar Bear tobacco were not well protected from the accompanying product; thus almost all Demmitt and O’Hara cards have at least some condition problems including tobacco staining. This is a rare opportunity to acquire relatively affordable low-grade yet still attractive examples of these two key T206 rarities. Total 2 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,406
