1909-1911 T206 Rare Backs Collection Including Drum and Broad Leaf (21)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $9,400
Presented is a unique collection of twenty-one T206 tobacco cards with rare advertising backs. Twelve different style backs are represented in the collection, including the particularly scarce “Drum,” “Piedmont Series 350-460 – Factory 42,” “Broad Leaf,” “Carolina Brights,” and “Hindu” advertising backs. Each of the cards has been graded by either PSA or SGC (except one GAI). The collection consists of the following in the order of scarcity (with the order of rarity provided by the “T206 Museum” website). 1) Drum 350 Subjects: Reulbach/no glove (SGC GOOD 30); 2-3) two Piedmont 350-460 (Factory 42, Dist. 4, NC): Magee/bat (GAI EX+ 5.5) and Wagner/bat on right (PSA VG-EX 4); 4) Broad Leaf 350: Nattress (SGC VG/EX 50); 5-7) three Carolina Brights: Clark (SGC VG 40), Hartsel (PSA VG 3), and Zimmerman (SGC VG/EX 50); 8-9) two Hindu (Brown): Burch/batting (PSA VG 3), and Jones/Chi., port. (PSA VG-EX 4); 10-12) American Beauty 460: Bradley/bat (PSA VG-EX 4), Leach/bending over (PSA VG-EX 4), and Pfeister/throwing (PSA VG-EX 4); 13) Cycle 460: Schlei/bat (SGC EX/NM 80); 14) El Principe De Gales (Factory 17, Dist. 2, VA): Nattress (SGC VG/EX 50); 15) Sovereign 460: Camnitz/arm at side (SGC EX 60); 16-19) four American Beauty 350 (Frame): Dubuc (PSA VG 3), Moran/Chi. (PSA VG 3), O’Neil (SGC VG/EX 50), and Schlafly (PSA VG-EX 4); 20) Sweet Caporal Overprint 150 (Factory 649, Dist. 1, NY): Wagner (SGC VG/EX 50); 21) Polar Bear (Factory 6): O’Leary/hands on knees (SGC EX 60). This collection, assembled one card at a time over a period of many years, includes many very scarce backs, and could make a significant contribution toward the assembly of a complete T206 back collection. Counting all possible back variations (brand names, printing colors, and factory numbers), there are forty different T206 backs. Incredibly, we have yet to see the assembly of a complete set. Total 21 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $9,400
