1888-1889 N172 Old Judge Rare Low-Grade Collection (9)
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $7,050
This collection of nine N172 Old Judge cards is overall in low-grade (includes a few higher grade), but this group is distinguished not for its condition, but for its rarity. This is a noteworthy small group of particularly rare N172 cards. 1) Cudworth (Worcester) 1889 copyright date (Poor-Fair, corner chip), 2) Dugdale (Maroons, skinned), 3) Ebright (Wash) 1889 copyright date (surface chipping in lower left otherwise Vg), 4) Gardner & Murray (two player tagging horizontal pose) 1888 copyright date, corners clipped, ink stamp on reverse); 5) Hadock (Wash) 1889 copyright date (Poor); 6) Hart (Des Moines); 7) Kilroy (Balt) 1888 copyright date (tiny border surface chip otherwise Ex); 8) Marr (Columbus) 1889 copyright date (Vg-Ex); and 9) Shannon (Louisville, two player tagging pose; Poor due to serious horizontal crease that breaks surface of photo, still a nice-looking card). Though these cards have numerous flaws, they will very likely still be of special interest to extremely advanced Old Judge collectors. Total 9 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $7,050
