1910 E125 American Caramel Die-Cuts New York Giants Collection Including Mathewson (4)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,231
Collection of four E125 American Caramel cards, each representing a player from the New York Giants (four out of eleven for a complete team subset), highlighted by Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson. Most cards have an appearance far superior to their technical grades. The lot consists of the following: Red Ames (tiny wrist crease on the throwing arm and three small glue residue stains on the back, otherwise Ex), Christy Mathewson (missing the tabs which allow the card to stand and several light surface wrinkles, otherwise Ex), Red Murray (Gd-Vg), and Cy Seymour (neck crease, otherwise Ex). The stand-up tabs of two of the three cards (Ames and Seymour) are complete and intact and have never even been folded back. We have seen only three E125 Mathewsons (and the tabs were intact on only one of those three examples). E125 die-cuts are among the rarest of all 1910-era candy issues. No full set is known to exist, and due to their considerable rarity, even the checklisting of the set is still a work in progress some ninety years after its issue. This is an exceptional collection of four of these extremely rare and uniquely designed 1910-era baseball die-cut caramel cards. Total 4 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $3,231
