1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cut Fred Clark (Clarke)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,763
Graded VG 40 by SGC. Presented is a very attractive high-grade example of Hall of Famer Fred Clarke from the 1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cut series. To the best of our knowledge, this is only the second E125 of Fred Clarke known to exist (the other example sold in REA’s 2007 auction for $8,225). All E125s are rare. The fragile nature of all die-cut cards and the easily broken flaps at the base of E125s, which allow them to stand, make complete, high-grade examples all the rarer. The E125 Fred Clarke has survived complete, with all flaps intact, with stand-up flaps never even having been folded back. Bright and clean, both front and back, the card presents at a glance as Ex-Mt, though close examination reveals a crease through his right hand which is almost entirely responsible for the more modest lower grade. The card has some areas of light age toning. The reverse is bright and clean with some very light age toning in the lower portion of the card. This card is an outstanding high-grade (for this issue) E125 example of one of the few Hall of Famers in the set, with an Ex or better appearance far superior to its SGC-assigned grade. We grade this card Vg-Ex. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $1,763
