1913 Voskamp's Coffee Honus Wagner

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,994

Graded POOR 10 by SGC. Newly discovered example of Honus Wagner from the extremely rare 1913 Voskamp's Coffee series. This is easily one of Honus Wagner's rarest cards. In fact, we believe the Voskamp's Coffee Wagner is somewhere between five and ten times rarer than the T206 Honus Wagner. This is only the third example of this legendary rarity we have ever offered during the past thirty-eight years, and all three were from the same find. This card has been consigned from the same family that sold the collection of ten Voskamps in REA's May 2008 auction. This extraordinary find of Voskamp's Coffee cards was saved for decades by the daughter of the original owner, who gave them to her in the 1940s. The family sold ten cards (including two Wagners) and had kept this one last card as a keepsake, but after seeing the results of the 2008 auction, they felt that it made no sense for them, as noncollectors, to keep such a valuable baseball card. Graded POOR 10 by SGC, it is the lowest-grade of the three Wagners from the find, but still a very pleasing example. The back of the card features advertising for Voskamp's Coffee and Tea, a complete checklist for the set, and details of the redemption program for seats at Pirates games. Voskamp's Coffee cards were regionally issued only in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. All Voskamp's Coffee cards are extremely rare. The issue features member of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Honus Wagner, naturally, is by far the key card to the set. This is a virtually unique opportunity for a collector to acquire one of the rarest of all Honus Wagner cards, with tremendous eye-appeal but still in a relatively affordable grade. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $4,994
