1933 R319 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth PSA EX-MT 6
Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $5,288
Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Presented is a magnificent high-grade example of the ideal Babe Ruth bubble-gum card, featuring the legendary “Bambino” in his classic follow-through batting pose. Goudey must have also realized this was the most classic pose as, of all the cards in the set, this is the card they chose to double print when replacing the missing card #106 during production. This continues to be one of Ruth's most popular and recognizable baseball cards. Because it was double-printed by Goudey (there were exactly twice as many Ruth #144s printed as any other card in the same series), this card also represents the best value among the four Babe Ruth cards in the 1933 Goudey set. This is an extremely attractive example with brilliant colors, flawless registration, and centered just a hint to the bottom left. The corners show slight, even wear, but remain square. Crisp and clean, both front and back, and with a very boldly printed reverse. This is an impressive card with a stronger eye-appeal than suggested by the assigned grade, sharing almost all of the qualities of a higher-graded example. SMR value is $4,750. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $5,288
