1933 R319 Goudey #29 Jimmy Foxx PSA NM 7
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,880
Graded NM 7 by PSA. This 1933 Goudey #154 Jimmie Foxx has four sharp corners (slightest touch of wear under magnification, mostly in upper left) and is centered toward the right border (65/35 L/R, not very noticeable on this card due to the natural lack of contrast between the yellow background and the off-white borders), with flawless registration, and off-white borders. The card is extremely crisp and clean, both front and back. This is a rare card to find in such exceptional high grade in part because it is from the condition-sensitive low number series of 1933 Goudey. Of the 350 examples of this classic card graded to date by PSA, only thirteen have been graded higher! An imposing physical specimen with bulging muscles, Jimmie Foxx was more than just a slugger. In his prime, he challenged Babe Ruth's single-season home run record, won three MVP awards, and the Triple Crown. He won two World Series titles with Connie Mack's Athletics, and retired as the second leading home run hitter of all time with 534 homers. Issued at the height of Foxx's career. The first line of the text on the back of this card reads "The player who’s giving Babe Ruth a battle for the title of Home Run King." He did, in fact, hit 58 home runs in 1932, though that extraordinary statistic is not detailed in the reverse text. One of the key cards from the 1933 Goudey set, this is a very high-grade example of one of the most popular and classic cards of one of the most highly collected Hall of Famers, the legendary slugger Jimmie Foxx. SMR value is $2,650. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,880
