1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,113
Graded EX 60 by SGC. Medium-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards, #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is, without a doubt, his most difficult to obtain and the most sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. For some reason this card is also a condition rarity compared with other Ruth cards in the set. This is a crease-free example, with even wear on the corners, and excellent registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this particular card). Well centered very slightly to the bottom left. The back is clean with bold green print set against an off-white background. While Excellent is not an unreasonable grade for this card, we think a grade one-half point lower, at Vg-Ex/Ex would be more appropriate due to a hint of scattered background soiling and a tiny surface scratch. This is a very attractive strong mid-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,113
