1936 R313 National Chicle and R314 Goudey Premium Collection (122)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,058

Collection of 122 1930s gum-card premiums, including twenty-nine Hall of Famers, is comprised of the following: 1) 1936 R313 National Chicle Fine Pens: 33 different (out of 121 in the set), 90% range from Vg-Ex to Ex, 10% Vg. Keys: Averill (Vg-Ex), Harris (70/30 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex), Traynor (Ex), Wagner (80/20 L/R and 10/90 T/B, otherwise Vg), Gomez/Ruffing (Vg), Mack/McGraw (Vg-Ex), Waner Bros. (auto. blue ink, Ex), Bottomley/Gelbert (Vg-Ex), Waner/Hartnett (Vg), Hartnett/Radcliffe (Ex). 2) 1936 R314 Goudey "Wide Pen" Premiums: Collection of 84 (almost all different but includes a few duplicates), very consistent in grade, 75% ranging from Vg-Ex to Ex, 25% lesser (most Gd, downgraded for minor paper loss, pencil or ink, and/or remnants of scrapbook removal on the backs). Included are 23 of the yellow tint Canadian R314. Keys: Appling (Canadian style, Gd), Averill (Canadian, Vg-Ex), Cochrane (Vg), Cronin (Vg-Ex), two Cuyler (Ex and Vg), Dickey (Vg-Ex), Doerr (Canadian, Gd), Feller (Canadian, Ex), two Frisch (Vg-Ex and Gd), Gehringer (Vg-Ex), Goslin (Vg), Hartnett (Canadian, Vg-Ex), Hoyt (Gd), Lindstrom (Ex), Simmons (portrait, Pr), Vaughan (Vg). The high-quality photographs used to produce the R313 and R314 premiums make them among the most striking and distinctive of all 1930s issues. 3) 1934 R310 Butterfinger Premiums: Five different. Berger (Vg-Ex), Grabowski (Vg), Moore (Vg-Ex), Pearson (Gd), Swetonic (Vg-Ex). Premiums have received relatively little attention from collectors compared to traditional gum cards of the era, and a case can easily be made that they represent one of the best values of all 1930s baseball issues. Total 122 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,058
