1937 V300 O-Pee-Chee Partial Set (25 of 40) Including Feller, Greenberg, and Foxx

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,288

Rarely offered and very impressive-looking collection of 1937 V300 O-Pee-Chee includes twenty-five of the forty cards comprising this rare, unusual, and very substantial 1930s Canadian issue. The collection is highlighted by ten Hall of Famers including Bob Feller, Jimmy Foxx, and Hank Greenberg. Twelve cards are graded Ex, seven are Vg-Ex, five are Vg, and one is lesser. Five cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA (all submitted by REA). Keys: #103 Averill (Vg), 106 Foxx (EX 5), 107 Greenberg (VG-EX 4), 111 Goslin (Ex), 112 Gehringer (EX 5), 115 Appling (Vg-Ex), 117 Lazzeri (Vg-Ex), 120 Feller (EX 5), 136 Ruffing (Vg-Ex), and 140 Hornsby (EX 5). Missing the following fifteen cards for completion: #101, 105, 109, 118 DiMaggio (this key card was pulled from this collection and is offered separately as a single lot in this auction), 119 Dickey, 121, 124 Cronin, 129, 131, 132 Ferrell, 133, 134, 135, 137 Grove, and 138. Cards from the 1937 V300 O-Pee-Chee set are very difficult to find in high-grade. These cards are designed with die-cut backgrounds that can be punched out and folded back to allow each card to stand up. Because of the die-cut stand-up design, many V300s are naturally found in damaged condition, and in many cases are found with the die-cut backgrounds entirely lost. Higher-grade examples tend to be downgraded by grading companies due to very minor factors relating to their die-cut design. The reverse of each card is printed in both English and French. This is an extremely attractive and, for V300s, very high-grade collection of twenty-five cards, representing 63% of a complete set, from one of 1930s rarest and most classic 1930s sets. From the Charlie Conlon Collection. Total 25 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $5,288
