1949 Leaf Gum Card Near-Complete Standard Set Including Ruth and DiMaggio (47 cards)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,113

1949 Leaf Gum collection of 46 different cards (of the 49 in the standard 1949 Leaf set, missing only #46 Mize, 76 Williams, and 79 Robinson for completion) plus one variation for a total of 47 cards, highlighted by ten Hall of Famers including Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Stan Musial's rookie card, Warren Spahn, Honus Wagner, and the Gene Hermanski error card (one of the true postwar error-card rarities). Condition ranges from Gd to Vg-Ex overall (averaging Vg), with a few cards Ex or better (#1 Joe DiMaggio is Ex and 102 Hermanski error card is Ex-Mt), and two cards in slightly lesser grades. Keys: #1 DiMaggio (PSA EX 5), 3 Ruth (SGC VG 40), 4 Musial RC (Gd), 11 Rizzuto (Vg), 32 Spahn RC (Gd), 38 Kluszewski RC (Vg-Ex), 59 Appling (Gd), 70 Wagner (Vg), 83 Doerr (Gd), 91 Kiner RC (Vg-Ex), 102 Hermanski/error (PSA EX-MT 6, name misspelled as "Hermansk"), and 106 Boudreau (Vg). Common cards: #10, 14, 17, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 39 Blackwell RC (Vg-Ex), 42, 47, 49, 50, 53 VanderMeer (Vg), 56, 57, 61, 65 Elliot RC (Vg-Ex), 72, 73, 77, 82, 84, 86, 95, 97 Marion RC (Vg-Ex), 102 Hermanski (SGC VG/EX 50), 111, 117, 125, 128, 136, 139, 159. This is an impressive-looking medium-grade near set with several significant highlights including particularly attractive examples of key cards Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio. The Honus Wagner card in the 1948 Leaf set has always been a favorite with collectors as he is pictured with chewing tobacco. The SMR value for just the DiMaggio and Hermanski error graded cards (not including the 45 other cards in the collection) is $1,500. Also included is the original wrapper (Vg condition). Total 47 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,113
