1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle - Rookie

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,644

Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. Very attractive example of Mickey Mantle's true rookie card with slightly out-of-focus registration. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set, and one of the most popular and significant of all postwar baseball cards. The slightly out-of-focus registration on this bright, crisp card (due to colors not being perfectly aligned) is a natural printing flaw as made. It is otherwise a striking example, with four square corners with just the slightest hint of wear, a natural rough cut along the two side edges, vibrant colors, and 20/80 centering top to bottom. Clean front and back, with no distracting print lines as is so commonly found with this card. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,644
