1953 Topps Complete PSA EX-MT 6 Graded Set (274)

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $15,275

The 1953 Topps set has always been one of the most popular sets of the 1950s. Presented is an exceptional high-grade complete set of this classic issue. All of the 274 cards in this complete set have been graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. As any collector of high-grade early 1950s cards knows, assembling a complete set of any 1950s vintage issue all in the exact same grade is extremely challenging. When a quality 1950s set such as this is assembled, entirely graded and in such a strong grade, and sold as a single unit, it is hard for buyers to appreciate the countless hours that had to be invested to accomplish the feat. The fact that the grade in which this set was assembled (PSA 6 EX-MT) represents such an exceptional value compared to a higher- or lower-graded set makes this set particularly desirable. The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1953 Topps makes them particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. The PSA EX-MT 6 across-the-board grade does not begin to tell the entire story of this set. There are no weak links. This complete set was assembled one card at a time by a very dedicated condition-conscious collector over a period of many years, with a concern for all factors, and with a special consideration to centering and overall eye-appeal. This is just a gorgeous high-grade set from card #1 Jackie Robinson to card #280 Milt Bollong. A set like this doesn't come together easily, especially in a value-oriented grade. Also of note is the fact that currently complete sets often bring no premium at all for the work of assembly, and sometimes actually sell for a discount compared to the sum of their parts. We can see this changing in the years to come. The assembly of a set of this high quality and unrivaled consistency is the result of a tremendous amount of time, effort, and patience. This is a magnificent set. All 274 cards are graded PSA EX-MT 6: including #1 Robinson, 10 Burgess SP, 27 Campanella, 37 Mathews, 41 Slaughter, 54 Feller, 61 Wynn SP, 62 Irvin, 76 Reese, 77 Mize, 78 Schoendienst, 81 Black SP, 82 Mantle, 86 Martin, 87 Lopat, 104 Berra, 114 Rizzuto, 119 Sain SP, 138 Kell, 147 Spahn, 149 DiMaggio, 151 Wilhelm, 162 Klu, 191 Kiner, 207 Ford, 220 Paige, 228 Newhouser, 244 Mays, 246 Face, 254 Roe, 258 Gilliam SP, 263 Podres SP, 265 Jensen SP, 273 Haddix SP, and 280 Bolling (Gd). Also please note that none of these cards has been submitted for review for the recently introduced PSA half-grades. There is no question that a great number of these cards would be awarded grades a half-point higher if submitted for review. This is an extremely attractive high-grade complete set of this classic early Topps issue. The total SMR value for the individual cards exceeds $16,000. Total 274 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $15,275
