1953 Bowman Color PSA-Graded complete Set (160)
Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $11,750
Spectacular high-grade complete set of 1953 Bowman Color. Every card in the set has been graded by PSA: 126 of the 160 cards in this complete set have been graded EX-MT 6, twenty-eight cards are graded NM 7, and six cards are graded NM-MT 8 (of which two are qualified). This is an extraordinary set, high-quality throughout, and with a simply amazing degree of consistency. A tremendous amount of time and energy has been invested in the assembly of this high-grade set, with an eye for all condition factors including centering, and with an eye for value. The grade of this set is considered the "sweet spot" for value by many collectors. The total SMR for the individual cards in the set is $15,000, but this does not begin to take into account the time and effort required to assemble a set in this grade, especially since strong PSA-graded EX-MT 6 cards represent such an extraordinary value compared with slightly higher-grade examples. We have registered this set on the PSA registry under "REA Spring 2009." It is the thirteenth-highest graded set out of fifty-two registered sets, with an average grade of 6.17. PSA grading composite: Six cards are graded NM-MT 8: #15, 41, 42, 47, 128 (OC), and 129 (OC). Twenty-eight cards are graded NM 7: #6, 17, 19, 29, 30, 33 Reese, 36 Minoso, 37, 38, 39, 44 Bauer/Berra/Mantle, 46 Campanella, 49, 53, 62 Kluszewski, 64 Simmons, 66, 67, 80 Kiner, 81 Slaughter, 83, 91, 98, 110, 111, 134, 136, and 140. 126 cards are graded EX-MT 6: including #1 Williams, 9 Rizzuto, 10 Ashburn, 18 Fox, 32 Musial, 40 Doby, 51 Irvin, 55 Durocher, 57 Boudreau, 59 Mantle, 61 Kell, 65 Roberts, 92 Hodges, 93 Rizzuto/Martin, 97 Mathews, 99 Spahn, 101 Schoendienst, 114 Feller, 117 Snider, 118 Martin, 121 Berra, 143 Lopez, 146 Wynn, 153 Ford, and 160 Abrams (last card in set). This set was assembled one card at a time by a very dedicated collector over a period of many years. Also please note that none of these cards has been submitted for review for the recently introduced PSA half-grades. There is no question that a great number of these cards would be awarded a half-point higher grade if submitted for review. This is an extraordinary entirely graded high-grade complete set of this classic early Bowman issue. Total 160 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $11,750
