1962 Topps Complete Set (598) with 108 PSA-Graded Cards

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $11,750

Outstanding ultra high-grade complete set of 1962 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all baseball-card sets. Of the 598 cards in the set, 108 cards (18% of the set) have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (unless otherwise noted). Included are three MINT 9s, ten NM-MT+ 8.5s, eighty-seven NM-MT 8s including #10 Clemente and #200 Mantle, and eight NM 7s. The flush-to-the-border brown wood-grain design of the 1962 Topps set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an extremely strong and beautiful high-grade set! It is rare to find a complete set of this classic issue in such high grade and offered as a single unit. This set also includes both variations for #176 for a total of 599 cards. The PSA grades are as follows: Three MINT 9: #23, 50 Musial, and 537 Indians team. Ten NM-MT+ 8.5: #19, 76, 132, 165, 187, 229, 338, 386, 429, and 475 Ford AS. Eighty-seven NM-MT 8: #10 Clemente, 14, 16, 26, 40 Cepeda, 41, 44, 49, 53 HR LDRS, 57, 58, 59, 60, 69, 70 Killebrew, 71, 73 Fox, 78, 79, 85 Hodges, 88, 89, 94, 103, 110, 112, 122, 137, 139, 150 Kaline, 167 McCarver RC, 169, 171, 200 Mantle, 213 Ashburn, 222, 228, 232, 234, 235, 240, 244, 246, 250, 251 Yankees team, 253, 256, 264, 271, 272, 275, 311, 317, 326, 333, 348, 351, 352, 360 Berra, 367, 376, 382, 383, 384, 389, 390 Cepeda AS, 395 Mays AS, 398 Drysdale AS, 399 Spahn AS, 402, 409, 410, 418, 437, 460 Bunning, 461 Hubbs RC, 462, 466, 468 Robinson AS, 472, 495, 500 Snider, 502, 505 Marichal, 594 Uecker RC, 595, and 597. Eight NM 7: #5 Koufax, 18 Managers' Dream, 176a Yost (batting, SGC NM 84), 176b Yost (portrait, SGC NM+ 86), 287, 323, 394 Aaron AS, and 530 Gibson SP. Ungraded Keys: #1 Maris (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex), 25 Banks (Ex-Mt), 29 Stengel (Nr/Mt), 30 Mathews (Nr/Mt), 45 Robinson (20/80 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 100 Spahn (70/30 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 140 Ruth/Gehrig (Ex-Mt), 199 Perry RC (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 218 Torre RC (30/70 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 300 Mays (Ex/Ex-Mt), 310 Ford (Nr/Mt), 313 Maris IA (Ex-Mt), 318 Mantle IA (70/30 L/R and T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), 320 Aaron (Ex-Mt), 340 Drysdale (Nr/Mt), 350 Robinson (30/70 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), 387 Brock RC (1/99 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 401 Maris/Cepeda (Nr/Mt), 425 Yastrzemski (Nr/Mt), 471 Mantle AS (possible slight trim, otherwise Ex-Mt), 544 McCovey SP (Ex-Mt), 545 Wilhelm (Ex), 575 Schoendienst SP (Ex), 591 McDowell RC (20/80 L/R, otherwise Ex), 592 Bouton RC (Vg-Ex/Ex), 596 Pepitone (Ex), and 598 Hickman (Vg-Ex). The 492 cards which have not been encapsulated are comprised primarily of commons. The condition of the not-yet-encapsulated cards are: 80% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 20% slightly lesser grades (mostly Ex-Mt). It is expensive to encapsulate an entire complete set with hundreds of cards, but the collector who assembled this set did make a sizable investment in grading 108 cards, which is an extremely substantial selection. As suggested by the extraordinary grades and condition composite above, this is a pack-fresh complete set of this classic 1960s issue with tremendous eye-appeal. This set obviously has tremendous break value. The SMR value for just the 108 PSA-graded cards (not including the 492 ungraded cards) is $9,045. Total 599 cards (set of 598 plus one variation). Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$8,000++. SOLD FOR $11,750
