1962 Topps Complete Set (598) with 105 PSA-Graded Cards Plus 13 Rare Variations

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $7,638

Presented is an exceptionally attractive and unusually high grade complete set of 1962 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all baseball-card sets. This extremely high-quality 1962 Topps complete set of 598 cards is the result of countless hours of careful assembly, searching, acquiring individual cards, and upgrading, with an experienced eye for quality, centering, and the overall visual appeal of each card. Of the 598 cards in the set, 105 cards (18% of the set) have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (unless otherwise noted). Included are nine NM-MT 8s, ninety-one NM 7s including #1 Maris and #200 Mantle, and five EX-MT 6s. The flush-to-the-border brown wood-grain design of the 1962 Topps set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is a beautiful set. It is rare to find a complete set of this classic issue in such high grade and offered as a single unit. This particular set also includes thirteen significant variations (both variations for #22, 129, 132, 134, 147, 174, 176, 190, 192, 458, 462; and all three variations for #139), for a total of 611 cards. The PSA grades are as follows: Nine NM-MT 8: #29 Stengel, 321, 375, 382, 399 Spahn AS, 502, 558, 567, and 594 Uecker RC (GAI NM-MT 8). Ninety-one NM 7: #1 Maris, 5 Koufax, 10 Clemente, 18 Managers' Dream, 22b Checklist (#33-88 on back), 25 Banks, 30 Mathews, 45 Robinson, 50 Musial, 53 HR LDRS, 73 Fox (GAI NM 7), 85 Hodges, 111, 116, 129a Walls (pinstriped), 145, 146, 148, 150 Kaline, 167 McCarver RC, 169, 170 Santo (GAI NM 7), 174b Willey (no cap), 176a Yost (batting), 184, 190b Moon (no cap), 198, 199 Perry RC (SGC NM+ 86), 200 Mantle, 201, 202, 203, 205, 206, 208 Martin, 209, 211, 213 Ashburn, 214, 222, 225, 228, 232, 236, 237, 243 Roberts, 251 Yankees team, 255, 258, 269, 274, 277, 300 Mays, 302, 310 Ford, 311, 313 Maris IA, 316, 318 Mantle IA, 320 Aaron, 350 Robinson, 360 Berra, 366, 371, 384, 387 Brock RC, 390 Cepeda AS, 391 Mazeroski AS, 394 Aaron AS, 395 Mays AS, 401 Maris/Cepeda, 409, 437, 468 Robinson AS, 471 Mantle AS, 474, 496, 500 Snider, 530 Gibson, 537, 541, 545 Wilhelm, 546, 568, 586, 589, 591 McDowell RC, 592 Bouton RC, 593, 595, and 597. Five EX-MT 6: #147a Kunkel (ball in hand), 174a Willey (cap), 240, 299, and 400. Ungraded Keys: #100 Spahn (Ex), 140 Ruth/Gehrig (Ex-Mt), 218 Torre (Nr/Mt), 340 Drysdale (Ex-Mt), 425 Yastrzemski (Ex), 544 McCovey SP (Ex), 575 Schoendienst SP (Ex), 596 Pepitone (Ex-Mt), and 598 Hickman (Ex). The 506 cards which have not been encapsulated are comprised primarily of commons. The condition of the not-yet-encapsulated cards is 75% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 15% Ex-Mt, and 10% Ex. It is expensive to encapsulate an entire complete set with hundreds of cards, but the collector who assembled this set did make a sizable investment in grading 105 cards, which is an extremely substantial selection. As suggested by the extraordinary grades and condition composite above, this is a crisp and stunning complete set of this classic 1960s issue with tremendous eye-appeal. This set obviously has tremendous break value. Crisp and stunning complete set of this classic 1960s issue. The SMR value for just the 105 PSA-graded cards (not including the 506 ungraded cards) is $5,113. Total 611 cards (set of 598 plus 13 variations). Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+.
