1931 Philadelphia Athletics World Series Program (vs. St. Louis) Signed by 25 Members of the St. Louis Cardinals

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,175

The signatures of twenty-five members of the 1931 National League champion St. Louis Cardinals adorn the interior of this 1931 Philadelphia Athletics World Series program. Each of the Cardinals players has signed the program on the Cardinals team page, with all but two having placed his signature either on or alongside his respective portrait. (Flowers and Roettger are not pictured; they were traded to the Cardinals late in the season.) The signatures offered here are those of Jessie Haines, Frankie Frisch, Burleigh Grimes (black fountain pen), Chick Hafey, Jim Bottomley, Pepper Martin, Paul Derringer, Gabby Street (Mgr.), Earl Adams, Jake Flowers, Syl Johnson, Ernie Orsatti, Jim Wilson, Jim Lindsey, Bill Hallahan, Gus Mancuso, Wally Roettger, George Watkins, Charley Gelbert, Mike Gonzalez, Tony Kaufmann, Flint Rhem, Ray Blades, Rip Collins, and Allyn Stout. The signatures are all fairly uniform in strength and grade “9/10” overall, having been perfectly protected from all elements, including light, in the interior pages. The substantial thirty-six-page program also features large photos and biographies of each Philadelphia team member, as well various team and league officials, including Kenesaw Landis and Branch Rickey. World Series programs from this era are rarely found signed by so many players. The program has general wear, including a few light creases, and displays beautifully. It has not been scored. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,175
