Babe Ruth Signed Autograph Album Page

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,938

Album sheet, removed from the legendary autograph album compiled by Dr. John O'Meara in the 1930s, signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Babe Ruth. (The original near-complete album is also offered in this auction; please see the lot description for full details.) Flawlessly scripted in blue fountain pen, grading ‘10.’ This exceptional Ruth signature was easily one of the great highlights in O'Meara's extraordinary album. We know that O'Meara corresponded with Ruth (from surviving letters sold in years past), so they obviously knew each other on a personal level. Since Ruth regularly traveled to Boston each season with the Yankees, and then spent half a season as a member of the Boston Braves in 1935, O'Meara had countless opportunities to meet with the legendary slugger and acquire his signature. And, as we see here, the signature he did obtain is nothing short of perfect (at least to our eye!), and has been flawlessly preserved and protected from all elements including light in the confines of Dr. O'Meara's prized signature album for over seventy years. The page (5.5 x 4.5 inches) has been neatly removed from the original album and is in Near Mint condition. Encapsulated by Beckett Grading Services in conjunction with James Spence Authentication. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,938
