1950-1968 All-Star Game Team-Signed Ball Collection (21)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,225

Collection of twenty-one All-Star Game team-signed balls spanning the years 1950 through 1968. Due to the large number of balls offered here, and the fact that each has has an average of twenty-five signatures, we have limited the player names listed to only the Hall of Fame signatures and a few select notables. Many of the balls have the year noted on one of the panels and a few teams are represented by more than one ball. Some of the balls contain a few "clubhouse" signatures, and all such examples are duly noted in the listing. 1) 1950 American and National League. This ONL (Giles) ball features the signatures of both American and National League team members, as well as Hall of Fame umpire Jocko Conlon (he worked the 1950 All-Star Game). Included among the twenty-eight signatures, scripted in either blue or black ink ("6" to "10," averaging "7") are those of Berra, Doerr, Doby, Dickey (coach), Stengel (Mgr.), Rizzuto, Campanella (clubhouse), Kiner, Slaughter, and Conlan (sweet spot). Ex-Mt. 2) 1951 American League. Twenty-four blue or black-ink signatures ("4" to "9," averaging "7/8") on an OAL (Harridge) ball, including J. DiMaggio (sweet spot), T. Williams (the first name is penned in blue ink, and the surname in black ink; however, it does not appear that Williams "went over" his last name; for whatever reason, he simply used two different pens), Dickey (coach), Berra, Doby, Fox, Rizzuto, and Lemon. Ex, with minor soiling. 3) 1951 National League. Twenty-eight blue ink signatures ("6" to "8") on an OAL (Harridge) ball, including J. Robinson, Musial, Ashburn, Slaughter, Reese, Campanella, Schoendienst, Roberts, Kiner, Snider, and Spahn. The year and an illegible notation appears on the ball label. Vg-Ex, with moderate soiling. 4) 1955 National League. Thirty blue-ink signatures ("7" to "9") on an ONL (Giles) ball, including Mays, Roberts, Durocher (sweet spot), Musial, Mathews, Aaron, Snider, Banks, and Schoendienst. With five small ink stains on a side panel (affecting three signatures, including Banks and Schoendienst), otherwise Ex-Mt. 5) 1957 American League. Twenty-five blue ink signatures ("6/7," many now have a purple hue) on an ONL (Giles) ball, including Fox, Berra, Bunning, Kaline, Wynn, and Kell. Ex-Mt, with a tiny area of discoloration on the ball label. 6) 1957 National League. Twenty-six blue-ink signatures ("9/10") on an ONL (Giles) ball, including Alston (Mgr., sweet spot), Banks, Mathews, Aaron, Musial, Schoendienst, and Spahn. With a tiny area of discoloration on a side panel, otherwise Nr-Mt. 7) 1958 American League. Twenty-five blue-ink signatures ("2" to "9," averaging "7") on an OAL (Harridge) ball, including Mantle, Kaline, Wynn, Ford, Stengel (Mgr.), and Fox. Ex. 8) 1958 American League. Thirty-one blue-ink signatures ("8" to "10") on an OAL Harridge ball, including Mantle, Aparicio, T. Williams (sweet spot), Stengel (Mgr., three times, once on the sweet spot), Kaline, Fox, Berra, Ford, and Wynn. A name (illegible) has been crossed out in vintage ink. Lightly shellacked, otherwise Ex. 9) 1959 American League. Thirty blue-ink signatures ("6" to "9") on an OAL (Harridge) ball, including T. Williams (sweet spot, clubhouse), Mantle (clubhouse), Fox, Aparicio, Ford, Stengel (Mgr.), Berra (clubhouse), Kaline, Bunning, Killebrew, Wilhelm, and Wynn. Based upon the signatures present, it appears this ball is from the first All-Star Game held at Forbes Field. (Two All-Star Games were held each season between the years 1959 and 1962.) Ex-Mt. 10) 1959 National League. Twenty-seven blue-ink signatures ("5" to "9," averaging "7") on an ONL (Giles) ball, including Mazeroski, Banks, Spahn, Musial, Mathews, Mays, F. Robinson, Aaron (sweet spot), Cepeda (sweet spot), and Drysdale. Ex. 11) 1959 National League. Thirty-two blue-ink signatures ("3" to "10," averaging "6/7") on an ONL (Giles) ball, including Aaron, Drysdale, Banks, Mathews, Mazeroski, Spahn, Cepeda, Musial, and F. Robinson. Ex, with light age toning. 12) 1961 National League. Robinson, Aaron, Spahn, Dark (stamped signature), and Mays (stamped signature). Moderately shellacked, otherwise Ex. 13) 1962 American League. Robinson, Ford, Lopez (Mgr., sweet spot), and Killebrew. Ex. 16) 1966 American League. Twenty-four blue or black-ink signatures ("8" to "10") on an OAL (Cronin) ball, including F. Robinson, Killebrew, Hunter, and Kaline. Ex-Mt. 17) 1966 National League.
