1948-1966 American and National League All-Star Team-Signed Ball Collection (7)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,700

This collection of seven All-Star Game team-signed balls, featuring an incredible total of fifty-six Hall of Fame signatures, is distinguished not only for its condition, but also its extraordinary provenance. Each of these balls originates from the personal collection of Bob Bauman, who was a longtime Major League trainer with both the St. Louis Browns (1937-1953) and St. Louis Cardinals (1954-1988), and has been consigned to this auction directly by his son. (A total of eighty-four team-signed baseballs from the Bauman Collection, offered in twelve separate lots, are featured in this current auction.) Among the highlights is a 1952 National League ball signed by ten Hall of Famers, including Jackie Robinson and Roy Campanella, and a 1953 American League ball with eleven Hall of Famers, including Mantle and Paige. In our listing for each ball we have duly noted all of the Hall of Fame signatures as well as those of the prominent players. 1948 American League: OAL (Harridge) ball signed in blue ink (averaging “8/9” with the exception of DiMaggio’s signature, which displays heavy bleeding) by twenty-eight members of the 1948 American League All-Star team, plus trainer Bob Bauman, from whom this ball originates.
