Harry Hooper Single-Signed Ball

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,813

Exceptional high-grade official National League (Giles) ball signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Harry Hooper. Hooper has flawlessly signed the ball in black ink on a side panel, with the signature grading "10." Aside from some light surface wear the ball is in outstanding Near Mint condition. This is the finest Harry Hooper single-signed ball we have ever offered and one that would be worthy of even the most advanced Hall of Fame single-signed ball collection. Even though Hooper was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971, Harry Hooper single-signed baseballs remain relatively scarce due to the fact that he passed away in 1974, long before autographs in general, and single-signed balls in particular, became high-priced commodities. Based upon its stampings, this ball dates from the 1958-1969 manufacturing period and was presumably signed by Hooper during that twelve-year period. Hall of Fame outfielder Harry Hooper is probably best remembered today as a member of what was perhaps the greatest outfield trio in baseball history. For eight years (1910-17) Hooper, Tris Speaker, and Duffy Lewis ably patrolled the outfield grounds at Fenway Park, and their exceptional play was largely responsible for the club's three World Championships during that span. Hooper was also quite proficient at the plate. As the Red Sox leadoff hitter, he consistently "set the table" for the hard-hitting Speaker and Lewis and finished his career with 2,466 hits. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $8,813
