1912 Boston Red Sox World Series Program (vs. New York)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Extraordinary high-grade 1912 World Series program. The 1912 Boston Red Sox World Series program has always been noted for its substantial design. Featured within its thirty-four pages are individual photos and short biographies of twenty-two Boston team members and front-office executives, including Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Wood, player/manager Jake Stahl, Duffy Lewis, Bill Carrigan, and Hugh Bedient. The preprinted lineups include Mathewson, Marquard, Doyle, Snodgrass, and Merkle for New York (Tesreau is noted as the starting pitcher), and Hooper, Yerkes, Speaker, Lewis, and Wood for Boston (Wood is noted as the starting pitcher). The program has been neatly scored in pencil for Game 7 and records an 11-4 win by New York. Boston eventually won the Series in eight games (one game ended in a tie), with the victory marking the first of the club's four World Championships during the decade. The program (10 x 7 inches) displays just a few minor creases and some small tears to the Boston score-sheet page. Perfectly clean, flat, and simply in far superior condition than normally seen for this classic. In Excellent condition overall. Accompanying the World Series program is a twenty-two page regular season Boston Red Sox program (with "World's Champion Red Sox" on the cover, ideal for display with the 1912 World Series program), issued for a game against the Cleveland Naps in 1913 (year printed on the cover). The preprinted lineups include Ray Chapman, Nap Lajoie, and Joe Jackson for Cleveland, and Harry Hooper, Tris Speaker, Duffy Lewis, and Joe Wood for Boston. The program is neatly scored in pencil and records a 7-3 Boston win. Research indicates that the only 7-3 Boston home victory over Cleveland in 1913 occurred on June 10th. The program (6 x 9 inches) has a very light vertical fold and is in Excellent condition overall. Total: 2 programs. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,231
