Original Paul Thompson Photo Collection PSA/DNA (31)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,528

Outstanding collection of thirty-one original Paul Thompson baseball photos, each dating from between the years 1910 and 1929, including two Hall of Fame players: Waite Hoyt and Ross Youngs. Ideally, each of the photographs has been authenticated by PSA/DNA and each is accompanied by an individual COA designating the photo as "Type 1 - 1st Generation." All of the photos feature one player, with twelve picturing the player "in action" (i.e., warming up on the sidelines, during batting practice, etc.) All of the photos feature Thompson's proprietary stamp on the reverse, with most also including the player's name as well as a few additional editorial notations. Unless otherwise noted, all of the photos measure either 5 x 7 inches or 6.5 x 8.5 inches. For listing purposes, we have grouped the players by team affiliation. New York Yankees (10): Waite Hoyt (8 x 10 inches), Aaron Ward (two different examples, one 8 x 10 inches), Fritz Maisel, Bill Donovan, Ray Keating, Hugh High (4.5 x 6.5 inches), Joe Doyle, Charlie Hemphill (4.5 x 6.5 inches), and Bert Daniels (4.5 x 6.5 inches). Brooklyn Robins (7): Jack Coombs (8 x 10 inches), Otto Miller (8 x 10 inches), Clarence Mitchell, Chief Meyers, Jeff Pfeffer, Ed Phelps (3.25 x 5 inches), and Doc Scanlan. New York Giants (12): Ross Youngs, Doc Crandall, Fred Snodgrass, Red Murray, Red Ames (4.75 x 6.5 inches), Hans Lobert, Art Fletcher (4.5 x 6.5 inches), Bill Rariden (8 x 10 inches), Pol Perritt, Rube Benton (8 x 10 inches), Fred Toney, and Red Ames. Boston Red Sox (2): Dick Hoblitzel (4.5 x 8 inches) and Duffy Lewis (8 x 10 inches). The majority of the photos display very minor flaws common to nearly all working press photos, including corner chips, minor edge tears, creases, and light surface wrinkles. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Total: 31 photos. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,528
