1915 Boston Red Sox World Series Program (vs. Philadelphia) - Game 3
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $7,050
1915 World Series program issued at Boston. Choice example of this classic early World Series program, which is especially significant as 1915 represents Babe Ruth's first World Series. Ruth is featured in the Red Sox team photo inside the program as well as in the team photo on the reverse of the program. The attractive cover design of the 1915 Boston World Series program features individual portrait photos of the respective owners and managers for both Boston and Philadelphia (Joseph Lanin and William Carrigan for Boston and W. F. Baker and Pat Moran for Philadelphia). The interior pages include separate team photographs of Boston and Philadelphia, as well as the Red Sox team photo on the back cover as part of an advertisement for Stag Brand Sweaters (Babe Ruth is included in each team photo). The preprinted lineups include Bancroft, Luderus, and Paskert for Philadelphia, and Hooper, Speaker, Lewis, Carrigan, and Barry for Boston. Ruth's name appears in print on the score page along with the remaining reserve players for Boston. The names of the respective pitchers for each club, Alexander for Philadelphia, and Leonard for Boston, have been filled in by hand. The program has been neatly scored in pencil for Game 3 of the Series and records a 2-1 Boston victory. Boston eventually defeated the Phillies in five games. Both this program and the other 1915 World Series program (scored for Game 4) offered in this auction originate from the same original Boston-area collection and are new to the hobby. The program (7 x 10.375 inches) displays very light toning along the borders of each cover, as well as a few tiny edge tears. The pages remain clean and bright. Very clean, flat, and in particularly high grade for such an early World Series program. Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $7,050
