Circa 1938 PM10 Stadium Pin Lou Gehrig - Key Pin Rarity

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $823

The key 1930s PM10 pin rarity, Lou Gehrig, in exceptionally high grade. Stadium-pin collecting has grown rapidly over the past few years, with serious pin collectors identifying many of the significant rarities which make collecting PM10s both so fascinating and challenging. While all stadium pins were sold as souvenirs at concession stands at the ballparks, the "entire set" of stadium pins is actually comprised of many smaller team sets, issued over a period of many years, and sold regionally. The Yankees naturally tended to be sold at Yankee Stadium, the Cardinals in St. Louis, etc. The PM10 series was first sold in the 1930s and continued to be sold at various stadiums for decades. The Lou Gehrig from the circa 1938 Yankees PM10 stadium-pin series is of special note on many counts. It is from one of the earliest of all Stadium pin sets, it is from a very distinctive series, and it features Lou Gehrig, the key Hall of Famer in the set. In addition, Gehrig is particularly rare. Its rarity is probably related to the fact that the PM10 Gehrig was no longer included as an offering in concession stands' inventories following his retirement early in 1939. Gehrig is among the rarest, and most desirable, of all the PM10s. The offered example still has its original hanging pennant and is in Near Mint condition. Dimensions: 1-3/4 inch. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $823
