1971 Dusty Baker Atlanta Braves Game-Used Home Jersey - Highest-Graded Example

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,293

Atlanta Braves flannel home jersey worn by outfielder Dusty Baker during the 1971 season. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. This is a scarce "style" jersey, as it was only worn by the Braves for the four-year period 1968-1971. The white-pinstripe jersey is lettered "Braves" across the front and features the number "12" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in navy blue tackle twill. A Braves team patch appears on the left sleeve. Baker's name, the year, and set number ("Baker - 1971/set 2") are chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag located in the collar. A "Wilson 42" label is situated on the left front tail. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear throughout. Baker only appeared in twenty-nine games with the Braves in 1971, and his totals were far from spectacular: a 226 average, with 0 home runs and 4 RBI. However, the following year, his rookie season, Baker exploded onto the National League scene by batting .321 with 17 home runs and 76 RBI. For the next fifteen seasons Baker remained one of the league's top outfielders and was one of the mainstays of the Dodgers pennant-winning clubs in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After his retirement in 1986, Baker again found success, this time at the managerial level, winning three division titles and one pennant in his sixteen seasons at the helm of the Giants, Cubs, and Reds. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is one of only three Dusty Baker game-worn jerseys listed in the MEARS census, and it holds the distinction of being the highest-graded example. Furthermore, it is the only 1971 Braves jersey ever authenticated by the company, strongly suggesting that this is a particularly rare year. This is an outstanding 1971 Braves home jersey in all respects, worn by one of the top outfielders of the 1970s who is also one of the game's most respected managers. LOA from Troy Kinunen and Dave Grob/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,293
