Trio of Circa 1910-1916 Eddie Collins Photos
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $353
Collection of three vintage press photos, culled from The Detroit News archives, each capturing Hall of Fame second baseman Eddie Collins. 1) Eddie Collins as a member of the Chicago White Sox, circa 1915. Editorial notes on reverse. The uniform style shown here was worn by the White Sox between the years 1914 and 1916; however, the photo must have been taken in either 1915 or 1916, since Collins did not join the club until 1915 (he remained with the White Sox through 1926). The photo (4 x 6.75 inches) has a number of minor flaws common to nearly all working press photos, including a slightly uneven right border, light surface wrinkles and editorial notations on the front. Very Good to Excellent condition overall. 2-3) Two photos of Eddie Collins as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics, circa 1911. Reverse markings on the first (5.25 x 8 inches) photo consist of two date stamps ("Filed Before June 1919" and "Aug 4 1921") and editorial notations. Reverse markings on the second photo (7.25 x 9.5 inches) consist of a date stamp ("Filed Before June 1919") and editorial notations. Both of these photos appear to date from the time of Connie Mack's first great dynasty (1910-1914), when Collins was a celebrated member of the club's legendary "$100,000 infield." Both photos have a number of minor flaws common to nearly all working press photos. The first photo displays light surface wrinkles and a tiny abrasion on the front. Very Good to Excellent condition overall. The second photo displays a trim along all four borders, minor surface wrinkles, and a tiny edge tear. In Very Good condition. Total: 3 photos. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
