1953 Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Pinbacks Complete Set Minus 1 (29 of 30)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $588

Incredibly rare and remarkably high-grade near-complete set of twenty-nine different pinbacks (diameter: each 3/4 inch) featuring the players of the 1953 Winnipeg Blue Bombers from the Canadian Football League. The set is missing only Ray Dillon for completion. In addition to being the only group of these extremely rare football pins we have ever offered, they are in virtually flawless condition. Being easily scratched litho pins (manufactured with images printed directly on metal), the condition is all the more extraordinary. The Blue Bombers have won the league's Grey Cup championship ten times. (This is the equivalent to the Super Bowl for American football.) Led by star players Jack Jacobs (in 1951 he became the first pro football quarterback to throw for over 3,000 yards and at least 30 touchdowns in a season) and Bud Grant (joined the team in 1953), the Blue Bombers were extremely popular and one of the leading teams of the league when this set was issued. Fascinating, high-quality, unusual, and extremely scarce Canadian Football League pinback issue from the early 1950s. Overall in Near Mint condition. Because we have never had even a sample from this set before, we have no point of reference for value, and are confident the auction will provide clarity. This is an impressive pinback set that obviously is very rarely seen. Total 29 pins. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $588
