1948 Leaf Football #34 Sammy Baugh Rookie - PSA NM+ 7.5
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,225
Graded NM+ 7.5 by PSA. This pack-fresh gem is one of the best 1948 Leaf Baugh rookies we have ever seen! In our opinion, this card appears even stronger than the PSA NM-MT 8 example that we sold in 2007 for over $12,000. It is a blazer! Extraordinary high-grade example of this popular Hall of Famer's rookie card. This exceptionally crisp card has deep, rich colors, four square corners, and flawless registration (which can often be a problem with cards from this set). The centering is also exceptional for this issue, almost perfect, centered just very slightly to the top border (approximately 45/55 T/B). Perfectly crisp and clean front and back. Just as the cards in the 1948-1949 Leaf baseball series are much rarer than Bowman and Topps cards from the late 1940s and early 1950s, Leaf Football cards are also rarer than almost all other postwar football issues. They are also very distinctive, with an unusual and very colorful design that has always been a favorite with collectors. A beautiful and extremely high grade example of one of the keys to the set, and one of Sammy Baugh's most desirable cards. This card is a gem! Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $8,225
