1980s Eric Dickerson Los Angeles Rams Game-Used Home Jersey
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,410
Los Angeles Rams home jersey worn by Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson during the 1980s. Graded A10 by MEARS, with only one other graded at this level. The blue mesh jersey features the number "29" on the front, reverse, and each sleeve. "Dickerson" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters are appliquéd in white vinyl, while all numbers are appliquéd in gold vinyl. Located on the left front tail are a "Medalist/Sand-Knit 48" label, and a Medalist/Sand-Knit exclusivity label reading in part "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Los Angeles Rams." There is a black marker signature, reading "Eric Dickerson #29" on the reverse numeral "2" that James Spence Authentication was unable to authenticate (it could conceivably be professionally removed if so desired). The jersey is all original and has not been altered with the exception of Dickerson's standard customized neckline. (Dickerson's customized neckline was one of the well-known player customizations in the NFL during the 1980s.) Heavy use is exhibited throughout the garment, with a number of team repairs present along the shoulders, and what appears to be a repair to the customized neckline. Contact marks appear along the sleeves and shoulders resulting in slight color differences to the blue mesh material. The stitching present on the nameplate has been broken in a number of sections, and repaired in one area. As MEARS notes in its accompanying LOA, this jersey can be dated to either the 1983, 1984, or 1986 season. The 1985 season has been eliminated due to the lack of the Rams' 40th Anniversary patch, or existing stitch holes in the area in which it would have been placed. MEARS further notes: "During this period, the Rams font types and sizes varied, but due to the lack of imagery, this jersey has been dated to the previous noted period. The MEARS staff may be able to pinpoint the dating of this jersey to a more specific period as new images become available." Given the information we have, this jersey dates to one Dickerson's first four seasons in the NFL, including his historic 1984 season in which he set the NFL record for yards rushing in a single season with 2,105. One of the games greatest running backs, Dickerson rushed for over 1,000 yards in seven consecutive seasons and led the league in rushing on four separate occasions. A six time Pro-Bowl participant and five-time First-Team All-Pro selection, Dickerson retired in 1993 with 13,259 yards rushing, the sixth best mark of all time. He was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 1999. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is one of just six graded Dickerson jerseys listed in the MEARS census, and one of only two to receive a perfect grade of A10. LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $1,410
