1927 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Famous Golfers" Complete Set (50): #1 PSA Set Registry!

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $22,325

Unbelievably high-grade complete fifty-card set of 1927 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Famous Golfers" cards, highlighted by two cards of the legendary Bobby Jones. This is currently the number-one All-Time Finest set in the world on the PSA Registry! Each card has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes seven PSA MINT 9s, sixteen NM-MT+ 8.5s (including Jones), twenty-six PSA NM-MT 8s (including Jones), and one NM 7. The PSA registry overall weighted GPA rating is 8.28. This is an extraordinary set which has been assembled by an extremely dedicated and condition-conscious collector over a period of many years, with the express purpose of assembling the best set in the world. The PSA grades are as follows: Seven MINT 9: #14 Hagen, 17, 21 Hilton, 22, 26, 31, and 33 Morris. Sixteen NM-MT+ 8.5: #5, 6 Braid, 7 Braid, 24, 28 Jones, 30, 32, 34, 36, 39, 40, 42 Taylor, 43, 46 Vardon, 48, and 50 (last card in the set). Twenty-six NM-MT 8: #2 Ball, 3 Barnes, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 Hagen, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 23, 25, 27 Jones, 29, 35, 37, 38, 41 Taylor, 44 Vardon, 45 Vardon, 47 Vardon, and 49. One NM 7: #1 Ball. Thirty-five of these cards are the highest-ever PSA-graded examples. Eleven additional cards have only one example graded higher. Compared to vintage baseball cards, golf cards are beginning to be recognized as offering an outstanding value. This is an extraordinary high-grade complete set of one of the premier golf sets of the era. The SMR value for the individual cards is $15,650 (there is no SMR value for the NM-MT+ 8.5 grade, so the sixteen examples graded at this level, including one card of Bobby Jones, were calculated using the NM-MT 8 value). Total 50 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+. SOLD FOR $22,325
