1954-1956 V337-1 and 2 Parkhurst Canadian Wrestling Complete Sets (2 Sets, 196 Cards)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $705

In the "old days," presented on Sundays, somewhere between the preliminary midget wrestling matches and the Roller Derby contests, gladiators of the ring squared off for dramatic battles. It seemed this was a world unto itself and Sunday was the only day when, flipping through the channels, a window, a glimpse into this strange world of competition was provided. Those were the days! Offered are two vintage 1950s Canadian wrestling card sets issued by Parkhurst, highlighted by the many star wrestlers of the era. Many of the same poses of wrestling stars are used in each set. 1) 1954-1955 V337-1 Parkhurst complete set (75 cards plus 35 duplicates): 65% range from Vg-Ex to Ex (with a few slightly better), and 35% Vg. 2) 1955-1956 V337-2 Parkhurst complete set (121 cards): 55% range from Vg-Ex to Ex, and 45% Vg. For generations of fans who grew up watching these innocent but thrilling spectacles on late Saturday night and early Sunday morning TV, these card sets will evoke strong memories. These sets harken back to a simpler age before blaring music, pyrotechnics, and catch phrases, when wrestling was a guilty pleasure, when these pioneers of athletics and entertainment broke new ground, and these giants ruled the world. Total 231 cards representing two complete sets plus thirty-five duplicates. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $705
