1967 Topps Wacky Packages Die-Cut #38 "Cracked Animals" - PSA NM 7
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,288
Graded NM 7 by PSA. Highest-graded example by PSA! One of only seven examples graded at this level. "Cracked Animals" is universally recognized as one of the key rarities of the 1967 Wacky Packages Die-Cut series, and of all Topps nonsport issues. Its great rarity has a fascinating explanation and story. When Topps first issued Wacky Packs, they knew they were on firm ground legally, but were naturally concerned about potential legal action taken by any company spoofed by the set. When Topps received cease and desist letters regarding the Cracked Animals and Ratz Crackers Wacky Packs, these two designs were immediately pulled from production. Consequently, each was issued for an extremely short period of time, thus resulting in their great rarity. This is an extraordinary high-grade example of this significant modern rarity. Bright and clean, both front and back, with brilliant colors, four square corners displaying only the slightest hint of wear, and centered slightly to the top. The reverse is also perfectly crisp and clean. This pulled-from-production Wacky Pack from the the very first series of Wackys ever issued is rarely found in any grade, let alone in Near Mint condition. This is an extraordinary high-grade example of this legendary key rarity from one the 1960s most popular and historically significant nonsport-card sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
