1968 Topps Crazy TV Display-Box Proof Sheet
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $235
Rare uncut display-box proof sheet for the 1968 Topps Crazy TV set originating from the Topps Vaults. This box design was produced to hold twenty-four five-cent packs of Crazy TV cards. The box cover features the "Bazanza" card in the set (spoofing the highly rated western Bonanza), while the front panel pictures an illustration of three laughing children. The rear panel exclaims "Another Great Selling Novelty...From Topps Chewing Gum Inc." This piece was originally saved by Topps as an example for its files, but was then later sold by the company shortly after opening the Topps Vault. Ideally, it is accompanied by a COA from the Topps Vault affirming its special provenance. Crazy TV was one of the more enigmatic nonsports sets issued by Topps during this period. Distributed in both the United States and Canada, the cards came in three varieties and were skip numbered. Although the reverse for one of the varieties lists a set total of fifty-five cards, only twenty-two cards have been found to date (the same twenty-two cards have been found in all three varieties). The sheet (18 x 26 inches) has a tiny tear on the top border and a few minor wrinkles in the bottom left corner, neither of which in the least detracts from its outstanding overall Near Mint appearance. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400.
