1909-1911 T206 White Borders Collection Including Three Ty Cobbs (121)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,463

Collection of 105 different (plus sixteen duplicates, for a total of 121 cards) T206 White Border cards in various grades, including twenty-six Hall of Famers, highlighted by three Ty Cobbs (all red background pose). These cards are part of a very substantial totally untouched collection of 1910-era candy and tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in the Internet-only section of the auction), which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. We have selected four T206 White Borders to be graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Highlights: Brown/Chicago (SGC VG/EX 50), Brown/port. (Vg-Ex), two Chance/bat (Vg and Pr), Chance/red (Vg), Chance/yellow (Vg), Chase/holding trophy (Pr, Polar Bear back), two Chase/blue (both Vg/Vg-Ex), Chase/dark cap (Gd-Vg), Clarke/bat (Vg), three Cobb/red (SGC VG/EX 50, VG 40, and Pr with Polar Bear back), Davis/Chicago (Vg), Evers/port. (SGC VG/EX 50), two Evers/Cubs (both Vg-Ex), Flick (Vg-Ex), Gandil/"Black Sox" member (three borders trimmed off, Tolstoi back), Griffith/port. Pr), Jennings/one hand (Fr), Jennings/both hands (Pr, Polar Bear back), two Joss/pitching (Fr and Pr with El Principe De Gales back), Kelley (Vg), Marquard/hands at side (Ex), Marquard/port. (Pr, Tolstoi back), McGraw/cap (Fr), Wheat (Gd, Tolstoi back), Willis/port. (Vg-Ex). The balance of the cards in this collection grade as follows: twenty-seven cards range from Vg-Ex to Ex, thirty-two range from Gd to Vg, and thirty-one are lesser (mostly Poor). Backs are mostly Sweet Caporal, but also included are a few Tolstoi, Polar Bear, and El Principe De Gales. Tobacco cards in this condition represent perhaps the best value among all vintage baseball cards. This is a very attractive original-owner collection of classic T206 tobacco cards, mostly mid-grade, including a particularly high concentration of Hall of Famers (twenty-six Hall of Famers including three Ty Cobbs). The equivalent SMR value for the just the four SGC-graded cards (not including the 117 ungraded cards) is $2,210. Total 121 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $6,463
