1911 T205 Gold Borders Collection (67)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,644

Collection of forty-nine different (plus eighteen duplicates, for a total of sixty-seven cards) 1911 T205 Gold Borders, ranging in condition from Pr to Vg-Ex, highlighted by five Hall of Famers and five minor leaguers. These cards were part of a very substantial totally untouched collection of 1910-era candy and tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in the Internet-only section of the auction), which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. We have selected three T205 Gold Borders to be graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Highlights: Brown (SGC GOOD 30), Chase/frame extends (Gd-Vg), Chase/no frame (Pr), Collins/mouth closed (Fr), J. Collins (SGC Authentic, Ex appearance, short at top apparently due to slight trim), Frick/minor leaguer (Vg), Gray/no stats (Fr), Hanford/minor leaguer (Fr), three Nee/minor leaguer (Gd, Fr, Pr), and two Wheat (SGC VG/EX 50 and Gd). The balance of the cards in this collection grade as follows: thirty-nine cards range from Vg to Vg-Ex, and fifteen are lesser (mostly Gd but including a few Pr). The forty-nine different T205 Gold Borders in the collection represent 24% of the set, and could serve as a solid foundation for the building of a very attractive low- to mid-grade complete set of this classic tobacco-card issue. Total 67 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,644
