1961 Kahn's Wieners Complete Set (43 Cards)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,763
Very crisp, sharp-looking high-grade complete 43-card set of 1961 Kahn’s Wieners cards, highlighted by Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente, Bill Mazeroski, and Frank Robinson. These cards are part of an exceptional 1959 to 1961 original-owner collection of cards that were saved by our consignor in the years of issue and have not seen the light of day since 1961! When this set (which is the slightly lesser of the two 1961 Kahns sets in the collection) arrived in our offices, sent in by the original owner, we were amazed by the condition. This set was obviously obtained by mail directly from the company (as even recalled by our consignor). Forty-one cards range from grade Ex to Nr/Mt, two cards are lesser. This distinctive and very scarce 1960s regional issue features players from the Reds, Pirates, and Indians. All the cards are bright, crisp, and incredibly fresh across the board, but most have been slightly downgraded due to a tiny corner crease in the upper right corner from not being properly storied. We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC: Roberto Clemente (SGC NM 84), Bill Mazeroski (SGC NM 84), and Frank Robinson (SGC EX 60). This is a remarkably crisp high-grade set of this popular and attractive issue, with all of the key cards in the set particularly strong. Kahn's Wieners cards are far rarer than most 1960s baseball cards, and are one of the few food issues of the era. The equivalent SMR value of the three SGC-graded cards alone (not including the forty ungraded cards) is $850. Total: 43 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
