1911 T5 Pinkerton Tobacco Cabinet Collection (5)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $940
Collection of five different 1911 T5 Pinkerton cabinet cards, highlighted by Hall of Famer Eddie Collins. All the T5s in this group have the photographs glued to very thin mounts, which are generally not recognized as original T5 cabinet mounts. It is also the case, however, that these thin-mount T5s have been known for many decades, not just in modern times. It is possible that these simple low-quality mounts were originally used by Pinkerton when the higher-quality thick mounts with embossed borders ran out, but we have no evidence to definitively prove this theory. The collection is comprised of the following: #151 McIntyre (tack hole at the top and paper residue on the reverse), 152 Delehanty (paper residue on back of mount), 158 Bush (two pinholes at the top and paper residue on the reverse), 522 Collins (HOF, minor surface abrasions on the back from scrapbook removal and ink notation "T-5" on the front), and 869 Campbell (pinhole at the top of mount and scrapbook paper residue on the reverse). All of the mounted photos are Ex (Collins does have an insignificant tiny tear in the top border of the photo), with the exception of McIntyre (photo Fr due to tears and ripples). T5 Pinkertons are among the rarest of all 1910-era tobacco issues. These photographic cabinet cards were available only by mail in exchange for coupons packaged with cigarettes produced by the Pinkerton Tobacco Co. Collection of five thin mount examples, including one Hall of Famer, each with condition problems, but each with great merit as well, from one of the rarest tobacco issues of the 1910 era. Total 5 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $940
