1911 T208 Cullivan's Fireside Amos Strunk

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,525

Graded POOR 10 by SGC. T208 Cullivan's Fireside tobacco card of Philadelphia Athletics’ outfielder Amos Strunk. A few creases, including one particularly heavy horizontal crease across the chest, with a very large top border, and with a typical T208 "diamond cut." Boldly printed advertising for Fireside tobacco on reverse. Despite the condition faults, this is still an extremely rare, quality card that would be a welcome addition to many types of collections. Upon close inspection, the faint remnant of a pencil notation reading "10.00" can be seen in the upper right corner of the reverse, no doubt referring to a sale price written decades ago. (In the really old days, dealers actually wrote prices on the cards they were selling.) This is a technically low-grade but still very desirable T208 Cullivan's Fireside, one of card collecting's rarest and most highly prized twentieth-century card issues. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
