1912 T227 Honest Long Cut Collection (4)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,528

Very attractive collection of three different baseball players (out of only four ballplayers in the set) and one duplicate (of Marquard) from the scarce 1912 T227 “Series of Champions” series. Missing only Cobb (two examples are offered elsewhere in this auction) for completion of all the ballplayers in the set. The collection consists of the following: "Home Run" Baker (Gd), "Chief" Bender (Gd), and two Rube Marquard (both Gd). All four cards have an advertisement for Honest Long Cut tobacco. Although technically in low-grade these four cards have strong overall eye-appeal. T227 “Series of Champions” are unique in design, and have the look of “giant T206s.” There are only twenty-five cards in the set, which features champions from numerous sports, including the four ballplayers. This is a very attractive mid-grade group from this rare, uniquely designed, and in our opinion, extremely overlooked tobacco issue. Total 4 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,528
