1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection Including Cobb and O'Hara, St. Louis (126 cards)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $7,050

Collection of 126 assorted 1909-1911 T206 White Borders (mostly different but includes a few duplicates) highlighted by fifteen Hall of Famers including Cobb, Mathewson, and Young. Also included is a low-grade example of T206 rarity Bill O'Hara, St. Louis variation. 30% range from Vg to Vg-Ex (includes a few slightly better), 60% are lesser grades (mostly Fr-Gd) but are still great-looking cards, and 10% appear Vg or better (in many cases with an Excellent appearance) but have a slight trim. We selected seven cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: Chance/yellow (Vg, Cycle back), Chase/trophy (Vg-Ex), Chase/blue (Gd), Clarke/bat (Gd), Ty Cobb/red (SGC VG 40), Collins/Minn. (SGC EX 60), Crawford/throwing (Gd-Vg), Evers/Chicago (Gd-Vg), Greminger/Southern Leaguer (Vg), Griffith/bat (Fr), Kleinow/Boston (Fr, Polar Bear back), Lajoie/bat (Gd-Vg, Polar Bear back), Marquard/hands at thighs (SGC EX+ 70), Mathewson/dark cap (SGC VG 40), Mathewson/port. (trimmed), O'Hara/St. Louis (SGC POOR 10), Orth/Southern Leaguer (trimmed), Smith/Chi. & Bos. (SGC GOOD 30), Speaker (trimmed), Tinker/bat off (Gd), Willis/bat (Gd-Vg), and Cy Young/bare hand (SGC VG 40). This example of the O’Hara, St. Louis T206 variation has several significant creases and staining (not uncommon for this card, which was only issued with a Polar Bear back, and Polar Bear cards are almost always stained). This is still a very presentable card of this highly desirable T206 rarity. This lot is ideal for the collector who wants original, authentic circa 1910 tobacco cards, which capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune. This is a very substantial group. Backs almost all Sweet Caporal and Piedmont, but also included are a few Cycle, American Beauty, Sovereign, Old Mill, and Polar Bear. The equivalent SMR value for just the seven SGC-graded cards (not including the 119 ungraded cards) is $3,285. Total 126 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $7,050
