1909-1911 T206 Christy Mathewson - Portrait - PSA NM 7
Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $6,463
Graded NM 7 by PSA. Of the 494 examples graded by PSA, only nine have been graded higher. This is a very attractive high-grade example of one of the three classic poses of Christy Mathewson from the T206 White Borders series. The T206 Christy Mathewson portrait pose is one of the most popular of all T206s, and one of the most highly regarded of all Mathewson cards. This example has a particularly bold image and extremely vibrant colors. It is centered to the top left on the front (approximately 40/60 L/R and 40/60 T/B) and to the far right on the reverse, with a very slight diamond cut. This is very sharp-looking card, extremely clean, both front and back, with four sharp corners. Sweet Caporal advertising on the reverse is centered to the far right. With the exception of the centering issue, which in this case is somewhat subtle, this card has all the attributes of a NM-MT example. We believe this card otherwise would have been awarded a grade of NM-MT 8, creating a particularly interesting value for a PSA 7 example. The SMR value for a PSA NM-MT 8 is $18,500. The SMR value for the assigned grade is $6,000. Reserve $1,500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $6,463
