1887 N690 Kalamazoo Bats Irwin and Maul - Rare Advertisement Back!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,700

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Very attractive double-player pose Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card, with printed advertising on reverse, of A's short stop Arthur Irwin tagging out pitcher Al Maul. Kalamazoo Bats with advertising on the reverse are especially rare and desirable. This is an impressive card on many counts. The advertisement print on the reverse is flawless and bold (both of which are particularly desirable qualities for a rare ad back example). The outdoor action image is unusual and visually exciting. Downgraded by SGC due to the slight natural diamond cut and a vertical crease and related surface wear down the center of the card (visible when held horizontally as intended). In addition to the rare ad back, also of special note is the fact that this is one of the very few distinctive and extremely desirable Kalamazoo Bats two-player cards that make the set all the more fascinating among nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,700
