1912 T207 Brown Background Louis Lowdermilk - Cycle Back
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,998
Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. Sharp-looking example of T207 Louis Lowdermilk, one of the legendary rarities of tobacco cards. This card has been downgraded by SGC from Vg-Ex (or possibly Ex) due to an area of surface paper loss on the reverse. We think most collectors will agree that this is a particularly amazing looking card for the modest grade. Lowdermilk has long been recognized as a key rarity of the T207 Brown Background tobacco card series. In the 1930s, in the original American Card Catalog by Jefferson Burdick, Lowdermilk was listed as rarer and more valuable than any other card in the T207 set. (At that time, its value was listed at $1. The T206 Wagner was listed at $50.) Today collectors recognize many cards as being of various degrees of rarity in the T207 set, but Lowdermilk will always be the most famous key rarity of the classic T207 set. Cycle Cigarettes advertisement on reverse. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,998
