1915 E145 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,406

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Presented is one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and one of the key cards of the 1915 E145 Cracker Jack series: #30 Ty Cobb. Besides being the second most valuable card in the set (behind Joe Jackson), it is also one of the most desirable and striking of all Ty Cobb cards. This example is bright and crisp, both front and back, with bold colors, no major creases in the image area (a tiny crease in the lower right corner, only visible from the reverse), some light corner wear, and virtually perfect centering. The card appears to be off center because of an ever-so-slight picture tilt that is characteristic of the card. This card was obviously issued packed in a box of Cracker Jacks, as opposed to originating from a factory set by mail. There are a few extremely light caramel stains, barely visible on the front and back. Technically in Vg condition, this card has a much better overall appearance than its assigned grade. This is a very attractive example of card #30 Ty Cobb, in an extremely desirable mid-grade. The classic Cracker Jack set is considered by many to be the most beautiful card set ever issued. The E145 Ty Cobb has always and will always be in high demand, especially a relatively affordable mid-grade example such as this that presents so much better than its technical grade. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+.
