1920s "E" Card Hall of Famer Rookie Collection (14)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,525
Collection of fourteen high-quality candy cards of Hall of Famers from four different classic 1920s sets. All are the first (or among the first) cards ever issued of each Hall of Famer as a Major Leaguer, and therefore qualify as their rookie cards. All the cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC (unless otherwise noted). The collection consists of the following: 1) 1921 E121 American Caramel Series 80 (2 cards): Hoyt (PSA GOOD 2) and Kelly (PSA EX 5). 2) 1922 E121 American Caramel Series 120: Southworth (SGC GOOD 30). 3) 1922 E120 American Caramel Series 240 (7 cards): Goslin (SGC EX+ 70), Harris (SGC FAIR 20), Hartnett (SGC VG/EX 50), Pennock (PSA VG 3), Sewell (SGC VG/EX 50), Traynor (SGC VG/EX 50), and Young (SGC VG 40). 4) 1921-1923 E220 National Caramel (4 cards): Coveleski (SGC GOOD 30; it is interesting to note Coveleski's name is misspelled "Coveleskie" on this card), Pennock (PSA VG-EX 4), Sewell (SGC AUT), and Young (SGC VG 40). This is a sharp-looking group of 1920s Hall of Famers, very carefully assembled by an extremely dedicated Hall of Fame rookie card collector one card at a time. Total 14 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
