1950 Drake's Cookies Near-Complete Set (33 of 36)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,350

Rarely seen near-complete set of 1950 Drake's Cookies consisting of 33 different of the 36 cards in the set, missing only the following three cards for completion: #5 Snider, 6 Campanella, and 21 Ennis. When this set was issued, television was still a relatively new medium. One of these "TV Baseball Series" cards was inserted in each box of Drake's Oatmeal or Jumble Cookies. Because of how they were issued (regionally, one card per box, and with cookies to kids), condition has always been a problem with Drakes in general. This is an extremely attractive low-grade near-complete set of thirty-three different cards. Most of the cards look better than their technically accurate assigned grades. One card is Vg: #4 Brissie. The remaining thirty-two cards have an overall Vg appearance but technically grade Poor or Fair due to pinholes (not easily seen and not distracting but they are there upon close inspection) including #11 Hodges, 13 Doerr, 14 Spahn, 18 Furillo, 19 Reese, 24 Berra, 25 Rizzuto, 33 D. DiMaggio, and 36 Slaughter. This collection represents a very rare opportunity to acquire an attractive low-grade (and therefore relatively reasonably priced) near-complete set of this classic 1950s regional food issue. Total 33 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,350
